This page was done in... November, but it turned out well overall.
I;m working on putting together a 'sketchdump' of the choice sketches, since most are just doodles of random scenes, and not much to note, art wise. I was able to get ahold of some Parkour research on You tube and google images for the one sketch in particular, I had to change the viewpoint of the pose as the photo i found of the move was a straight side view ><

the character designs for the pair of twins in the bottom right were done by Danee Castille

I have several more pages full of sketches in line for posting. But I'll be doing them little by little.

So the most recent drawing challenges being tackled by my group of art friends has been drawing couples and groups of people interacting, and making sure they are to correct proportion and height comparison to each other. Our victims are the usual suspects from our RP games, and scenes occurring there in.

Yeah, just a fancy excuse to draw lovey-dovey stuff <3 (I'm juvenile and i love it!)

The comic strip at the top is apart of my slice of life comic The Insanity Ensues .

I have a bunch of back up strips that need to be posted for that one too. First life-inspired comic I've done in a while, and I find it extremely therapeutic as per pixi-san 's suggestion<3 I heard a quote " Don't take life too seriously, you'll never make it out alive."

Tiny sketch in the bottom left is courtesy of Jezzacat . I was drawing some of the sketches at her former work place (The Press Coffee Shop) the week before she shipped off to Missouri T^T. Thanks for all the doodles before you went<3

seems he has 'ember' eyes, which is a very tricky effect to achieve I'm sure...but being square, they pulled it off nicely.
but it still bothers me that his head silhouette is so close to the design of sasuke from naruto ><. usually they make such distinct designs...ah well...maybe it's just me.

I've still been producing like mad!
what happened is, I discovered the Non-paying jobs in the CA.org forums. So I applied for four (thinking it would be good practice/experience whilst I continued my job search), but never suspecting that ALL FOUR would reply! So I picked up 3 of them and politely turned down the fourth without burning the bridge for future crossing.
Two that I joined up with seem close to Funding, but I'm not depending on that, and yes they own the work I produce, so it's basically what I'd suppose 3 unpaid internships would be like. But I receive the experience I so badly need with working in a group of developers/concept artists.
All I'd like in return is a letter of req. and maybe even permission post some of the pieces done in my portfolio.
My web comic is still going strong and on schedule and the artwork is benefitting from my concept work! ^^<3
Anyways, THIS image is a gift art promised a long time ago to a friend of mine. This is Diane's character Toya, and the image was draw up as a book illustration for her.

gah, the inside of my mouth feels like Frankenstein's face.
I was laid up the last few days after seeing the periodontist for an appointment I had put off an put off...and now I FEEL why...liquid diets suck, no pun intended.
don't brush you teeth too hard kids.
But anyways, I had plenty of time to think and ponder and plot and examine where I'm trying to take my life and work. and it seems 'right' to me now, the more I think of the history of my work and subjects since I was very little, it seems I'm designed for such a field...
So, I'm now working on my finishing techniques, and many many other weak spots now that I've identified them from help of reading 'requirements'... there is a long way to go, but at least I'm stubborn. (Variety, sci-fi, heroic 'MEN' and anti heros, and the dreaded...PERSPECTIVE...wise use of detail, high degree of finish, more finshed environments, showing that one is thinking in 3-D...etc.etc.)
All the way from pencils to inx to colors, and figuring a way to do it without killing my wrist and hand...it can be done.
Deriving from concept artist i admire, and even others of unusual style, as well as the old masters. and trying to keep it all 'me' as well as having fun and being proud of the work.
And trying to re-connect with the me before art school. i had this frame of mind back then... i need to dig it up again.

Things have been so insane I just wanted to wrap myself up in my warm up sketch today.

The morning's thoughts were on style and how to go about creating a distinct 'look'. And it seems all roads lead to simply showing your individual interpretations of the world around you in said style. In a way, reflecting how one's mind works onto a flat surface. (please let me know your thoughts on the subject as well)

Anyways, I particularly felt inspired by the skuntchers today to do a 'tight' (for me anyways) sketch of a character in harsh profile (thoughts of Mucha and Amano dancing through my head) and finally, revisiting the creative side of my brain inspired by video game work (that middle school student doodling in religion class and awaiting the time to go home and play FFVII). Those creative concepts of unusual appearance that promise a different and new world full of sights unseen...yes that is the appeal my choice of games often hold for me...aside from a challenge (which is often easy to find for my small gamer brain, apparently) and, of course, escape.

I'm sure this sketch doesn't even come close to anything of the type, but i hope it marks the movement back to focusing on my work and it's development other than the external essential needs of everyday life... (money is an illusion, btw, I just wish the rest of the world would realize that >< !!)

I'll stop babbling now and get back to work.

Got my focus back together and dug around till i found myself again !!
must make note to permanently weld myself together so i don't do that...

anyways, tried a hand at self caricature for today's warmup sketch.

At this starting at the bottom point of life, it's extremely tempting to 'sell out' in so many ways to try and make a living. but thank gawd it doesn't seem to work to well when i try and do that, my work does better when I'm satisfied with it with no regard or thought as to the general web community enjoying it. and they seem those pieces as a happy bonus. Now the problem is having too many projects i want to do and not enough time and energy...though I seem to be exceptionally more endowed with both than most others...

I have an overwhelming amount of things to do, and 50% of them are relevant to my future somehow...okay maybe 75%...

But some projects need to be moved up the priority list, I neglect things like SUBMISSIONS work due to so many years of training in school that other things are more urgent...and they aren't anymore. and I need to train myself out of those habits.

but ya know, family and friends have been neglected...and housework!

I'm struggling for my balance like mad.

Anyways, was speaking with a customer today (yes i was working on a saturday morning >She was pointing out that it's a good idea to be self supported by a career(insurance benefits etc) so that if something happens to the loved one(s) you are depending upon, you might support yourself and any others that might be under your care.
and so the beast was brought up again. And so I had to work off that angst some how.

My mind is boggling with possible routes but no sense of what would be best much less what is actually possible. And of course how to stay true to my dreams AND make enough to be 'comfortable'. I'm not asking to be filthy rich here!

All I can do is try I suppose, and after a night's sleep I might have more practical plans of action.

so I suppose the image begs the question: Why can't we make the impossible possible?
...with a huge dose of the angst created by that question.

This is my friend's character, Ith, a rather gentle soul... but i think i made him just look sappy >So this time around I worked form the reference for the design: http://www.paperdemon.com/art/view/20672 and then went onto corbis for reference for the type of face/build I wished to emulate ('kind','gentle',etc.) and then transferred it to my style...and...here's what happened...which looks like nothing different >< !! Not a HUGE difference, my characture could be played with more in more un-idealized characters (villians, allies, etc. etc.) but now, I must play with the subtleties of the idealized figures... since I have two other of her muses I wish to sketch for her, I'll try to show thier different personalities in thier apperance...
I'm enjoying this mess ;^^
and I must think up C's in my arsenal who would require for distortion from my norm...I got two already...* starts listing*

I was doodling, but didn't have anything particularly note-worthy, but now I may have something.
So I had a discussion with a former imagineer, and he suggested more practice in characature and the like (aminals, scenes, props) I was playing with the nose a bit on this one (which is hardly what he meant >My first graphic novel should be coming out any day now, and I'll have visits to make a packages to send with those...and I'll be taking them to a con to sell<3
have started attempting con trotting for not only networking purposes, but having a form of travel and meeting new people. and by selling art and merchandise, I seem to be able to support the habit. (con moneys are seperate from job moneys *finger shake*) and I'm being very strict and frugal, not spenign unless I have the money available and enough left over ;-_-
the imagineer also mentioned that the life of an artist is hard, and if you can accept that, then you truly love what you are doing, and that is priceless.

so after running around like a chicken with my head cut off yesterday morning, i finally attained a bit of inner peace and also was in the area of the skuntch-dom, which further brought some joy (and laughs) which brought my drawing dry spell to an end it seems.
so i came up with what would be, shelves and shelves (similar to a catacomb setup) of these 'service marionettes'. they might run around a wealthy and large estate with trays of food, or cloths, or cleaning.
but at the same time, if ever the estate might come under attack, these delicate little bods could whip about in close combat, climbing up walls and such with great speed, and even use external or internal weaponry.

and that was my random-ness for the day.

these are pencils for a gift art, so this is supposed to be some one's character...but the only thing I seem to have taken from the original design was the fact that the C is female with long white hair, and part Japanese...

then i REALLY deviated from there...;^^ and i had been watching Mononoke lately, so I wanted to play with that style in this as well.

I'm excited about this, so I hope the receiver shall be as well!

This month's mantra, and the hope of achieving a balance of both someday.

No sketch this time, I'm in the midst of finishing creating a book, which should be done at the end of the month here. (it's been over 5+months of work ;^^)
But these thoughts are in regard to my artwork. i can feel the veil over my eyes, as it were, and i have an idea how i might lift it...
Doing this project often required sacrificing quality, and doing that took away from the joy felt in the work (amongst countless other lessons.)
But I do have a better idea of my limits now and will work within them. However, at the same time i have lately been privy to seeing some fantastical work, and i see what I'd like to become closer to. So, in July, that process must start, not for prints, not for comments, for ME.
In a way, it's time to 'grow up' a bit more in that aspect.

Quick and Dirty outline, looks like other stuff >< but gotta get that part outta the system to move farther...

this model is supposed to be beezlebub's nemesis, with more financial backing and technology, but the contrast may be too great... but still, it was fun to mess with the aerodynamic lines of most modern technology...plus wall-e has my brain...so gotta detach from that before I can create something truly original here...

animal spirits and vengeful saloon girls

was up in the mountains for a family trip, (pshaw, like i have money for that on my own? you silly...) so i used our view as reference for the one pic, and we did actually have a sunset with lightning.<3 and i simply mixed in some kachina spirit with the ravens that would sit atop the pine tree tops...

and then the other two pix are from some dreams. the peg legged saloon girl could be developed some more, (all of these could stand to have WAY more time put into them, but i'm lacking in that are this week) so I plan to come back to these and a buncha other sketches the first week of july...

oh yeah, and the flying frog looks the same on either side when you flip him, he can even fly upside down...and yeah he only looks like a frog when he's landed, and his mark and mouth glow,(psst, he's a night time froggy<3)......ya know, i think he feed on souls...latch on with his tongue and whhhooop!....but he's all lazy about it....silly lazy soul sucking frog<3

DMM(drunken-mecha-master):beezlebub http://angichan.deviantart.com/art/DMM-64485110 first is an attempt at a mech by the name of Beezlebub...the story took place in the near future, so the thing is pretty clumsy looking and ALL home made for the most part ;^^(including the weak sketches ><) The pilot/mechanic is even too busy with repairs to install a proper pilot-pulley to the cockpit... but i had a blast researching and developing this bad boy.
next in the process was Mama Coneja http://angichan.deviantart.com/art/Mama-Coneja-64485678 The female leader of a bandit crew, el conejos negros....or sumthn' like that ;^^ but yeah, you don't wanna mess with her...
I did mostly historical research for this one and then added my own gilding's.

finally is my hellhound http://angichan.deviantart.com/art/Hellhound-74301014 , and i basically decided to make the creepiest thing i could think of...combining canines and the undead since those are two slight phobias for me... i researched other concepts as well as the according animal/human structures...and i love heem<3*pets* oh did i mention he drags his legs behind him whilst he crawls on walls? (and everywhere else for that matter...)

anyways, yeah, a year old these be... have i come very far?

Pagoda maiden

i was a bit stumped as to what i wanted to draw for a warmup sketch, and then i realized...i needed a detail of the figure in the pagoda scene...

and so she came along...I suppose she's traveled a very long way to find that place, and i imagine her as a mage of some sort...i might say... Geomancer, if anything. anyways, this depicts her with and without her cloak and sachel.

i still wish to do color versions of her and the pagoda scene...now if only i could find time >< this last week is crunch time on my big project i've been working on the last three months. and i must say, i'll NEVER schedule so many proj's ontop of eachother ever again...the limit is 2, from now on...and i better be being paid for both T_T...

but hey, how can you start gettn' paid if you don't do those initial freebies?

i'm not trying to be about the money here...i'm about having the financial foundation to support my work. i don't need to be a millionaire, or sumthn', i just want the security to produce artwork...if that makes any sense...?

Lunar Pagoda Sketch

referenced Chinese pagoda's for this one.

I've had this idea for a long time, and i finally decided to sketch it up, and I have allot of fun doing so, in the referencing and the creative parts...

I was trying to be respectful and accurate to the cultural inspiration as well, while at the same time taking artistic license where i could to create something different and new from the source.

i remembered how my Cantonese friend would say certain numbers were lucky and others bad, so i tried to follow that in the counting of objects and pieces in the image.

the 'temple' windows depict the lunar cycles as well as the 'islands', and the center island is man-made with a lotus pattern.

I'm sure the perspective is wonky here and there, but at least the sketch captures the ideas i had for the environment.

classroom/workplace

those angels are pretty popular on DA...been just postn' em straight over there...been so busy trying to finish a project for a end o month deadline here...TT_TT

but last couple nights i've been dreaming of wierd places so i've started making a habit of doing thumbnails of them in the morning.

First is a outline of a HUGE floating castle... i was in the road all day heading home from a trip, so i couldn't get ref for all the little bits and pieces...and haven't had a chance to get back to it.

But the next wierd place i dreamed of i did remember allot more and did a really quick really rough thumb, so i could remember the lighting and everything... and was able to creatively fill in some memory gaps and add to it.

save for the students at the desks had all thier stuff littered about, but it was before dawn and everyone was getting to thier work at sunrise.

and the school was moving to a new spot...so it kinda shook badly at certain points ;^^ (go dream logic...)

but yeah, just really rough, really quick...

Shimura-san' [link] <3 I just finished reading it, and i personally think that these two deserve thier own short story...*nudge nudge wink wink*...but that's cuz they are my fave c's from the story besides Ted<3>< anyways, GO READ IT NOWZ!!! this will be an art trade, and if it comes out the way i'm hoping it will, i also hope the trader will let me offer this as a print.
but i'm finally ready again today, i'm getting back in touch with the me before college. the one that created pictures with lotsa fun little ideas in them.
and get back to taking these pictures all the way, completely applying all my little ideas and technical resources into them, and collecting little reference pictures etc. etc.
so I can produce more successful pieces, that can be more satisfying to the viewer to take in...
if that makes any sense?

okay...1st sketch features the medicine man and my C's from DC ( www.devilscake.smackjeeves.com) and i was giggling like an idiot when i thought of it, so i had to draw it. ( and i was happy that my suspicions were half confirmed as to what the medicine man actually is.) if you haven't checked out the Mononoke series (NOT 'princess mononoke') i highly recommend it<3
and the second sketch was an attempt at a sexy/cute tenschi. buh....i'll hafta fix it or learn from it's mistakes...
